What is a morning suit?

The morning suit, more commonly known as top hat and tails, is generally made up of a morning coat, matching trousers and a waistcoat. To be considered a ‘proper’ morning suit, the coat must be single-breasted with peaked lapels and tails that hang to just below the knee.

Traditionally, it was common for men to don their morning attire for a wedding ceremony, hence the suit’s name. Now, however, it’s acceptable attire for an afternoon ceremony, too (though not for evening events or weddings that have a start time post 6pm).
